Mondayなんじゃい!
Hello world! Welcome to Tuesday, the day after I recorded again (after a 3 week hiatus).
Physically, I'm crazy exhausted today... I was up at 6:30 yesterday having to start moving my furniture to the basement, then help 4 people move. Finally when I finished, all I wanted to do was record. So I did, and it got a little bit techy.
Hope everyone likes it!

Tonight - Nocturne!
Hey guys, just wanted to let people know I'll be DJing tonight at Nocturne. I'll likely be recording while I'm there too... I wanted to get a mix done earlier this week, however I hadn't been available to do so due to my missing power cord. It's not in my possession again, so here we go!

Two new additions to the family since last time...
Most recent, electro house mix. Done last night, download here.
DJ KiKEN - Don't Dance
And this past Saturday, before I went to go check out DJ Master Cuest and Tippy spin some reggae at Nocturne, I recorded this hip hop mix.

Some new mixes
Kind of falling behind, not that anybody's coming to this site yet. Here's three new(ish) mixes from the past few weeks, in order from oldest to newest.
DJ KiKEN - House Meat
DJ KiKEN - It's Fucking Monday
DJ KiKEN - Maru Hachi's Farewell Preview Mix
On a side note, I was DJing hip hop for a bi-weekly gig for my friend(s), but it turns out two of them kind of bitched out and know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about how to do business. They weren't answering calls on Friday from both myself or the one promoter, who I've worked with before, and whom was friends with the one of them for over 20 years. But, as it turns out, I arrived at the venue at 9:30 for my gig. That's when they called my friend to tell him, quoting, "We're not really feelin' the jam tonight". Then you told him you'd be there by, what, 10 or 11? Did you show up at all? No. If you've booked a venue, AND THE DJ IS FUCKING THERE, that's too bad.
Then the day or two after, sent out a group message saying that the events are canceled. Did you talk to anyone else before doing this? No.
Business is business. Being a bitch is being a bitch. Bitching out when people are there is a lame ass thing to do. As well, throwing out friendships because you're sad about the venue having a no hat policy is fucking bullshit. That's not hip hop, that's straight up childish.
You guys weren't doing the venues any favours, nor were you doing myself or the other promoter any favours. Technically I was doing a favour for them for playing for their little playtime hip hop jam. The emcees, aside from a couple, were handing me CDs right before they were going on and telling me things like, "Play track 6, 9, then 10.". Did it look like I had a CD slot on my Tech-12's? No. Fortunately, I also use my laptop and everything worked out, however one of them gave me his demo CD and was rhyming over himself rhyming.
...Did I mention that the other promoter has been trying to contact the two of them for almost a week now? Why can't they even respond to his emails? Shit, for grown men, you shouldn't need me to tell you to man up.
On a better note... Tomorrow night I DJ at Nocturne, spinning house from 11:00 to 12:00! Come on out, 550 Queen St. West! It's free and it's DJ 108's farewell!
Friday night is house night at The Corner Place, Front St. and Jarvis, catch me there too!

June 26, The Corner Place - Front & Jarvis

Spinning hip hop with DJ Naicce. Ladies are free all night, $5 for guys, and starts at 10:30. This is a video release party for my boy Unknown Misery and some of my good friends starting a bi-weekly event here keeping it fresh. Conscious and feelgood hip hop, don't dress like a douchebag, and leave your attitudes at the door. One of my favourite spots to DJ in Toronto, nice place, good food, good drinks, excellent atmosphere, and let's start the summer off on their freshly opened patio!!
Peace. DJ KiKEN

Is it time for a new mix already? Maybe. I did one on Friday anyways, it's a little bit shorter though. 30 minutes of fun.

Thrilla from Manila
Dropped it like it's hot in my basement. Learning Lessons Vol. 1, track my journey into the world of house from beginning and onward!
Yeah, I know I fucked up a few times in the mix, but oh well. Ignore the ending. Give feedback, all is welcome.

Katalyst Group DJ mix
I've done it. I've recorded a mix. It was annoying as hell, because I've got a lot less play when I'm recording it, I don't have room to make mistakes. But after a while I managed to come out with this. I was asked to do it by my friends in Katalyst Group, they run i Candy Saturdays, which I DJ for on Saturdays regularly. It's about a 7 1/2 minute mix, so download and let me know how you like it!
Track Listing:
...Actually I started typing the tracklisting and decided to not. It's a surprise that way. If anyone doesn't know a song and wants to, let me know!

Valentine's Day

Big up to everyone that showed up for my Valentine's Day DJ gig at Chic Chinoise. It was the wedding party for a good friend of mine, and it was packed. Congratulations to Max and Miyuki on your wedding!! It was a long and tiresome time, but I'm glad I could have been there to hold it down the whole night for them.
Everyone else that was there... Make sure you come back!!

Here's a good photo of myself with Max and Miyuki.

Corner Lounge Feb. 13
Looks like I'm all lined up to DJ tonight at Corner Lounge. Location is the North-East corner of Jarvis and Front St. Toronto.
It's 9.30, we're going up at 10.00, but no equipment yet. We'll see if Kevin makes it here in time with the equipment. Tonight's the first gig at a bar with my DJ sensei, DJ PrimeChoice.
Wish me luck.
